Getting the best bodyweight workouts always draws a lot of attention from casual fitness folks and fitness junkies alike.
We know a thing or 3 about bodyweight workouts and are fans of them ourselves.
As we’re always keeping our finger to the pulse of the fitness and strength training industry, we had a nifty piece of gear catch our eye a while ago.
We’re talking about the Lebert EQualizer Total Body Strengthener.
The EQualizer looks deceptively basic, and packs a wicked workout punch.
Don’t Leave Home to Get the Best Bodyweight Workouts
So, here’s the thing. Full disclosure, we’re friends with Marc Lebert the creator, founder and “Chief Fitness Officer” of the EQualizer.
And we really like the EQualizer. Here are the main reasons why.
First off, the EQualizer distinguishes itself by its height alone. At 28.5″ high, it stands head and shoulders above shorter paralettes.
This makes the EQualizer almost twice as tall as most paralettes, giving it a deeper profile, thus a wider range of available movements.
The EQualizer is a rugged piece of gear too. Even though each bar weights only 8 pounds, each one supports up to 400 pounds.
Additionally, the best part about it, is that you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home.
Look at it. You can put it in your living room in front of the TV if you want.
You can put it a lot of places: the trunk/backseat of your car, your garage, your patio, and your home gym. Heck, looking at the picture above, seems like you can put it in your office too.
The EQualizer has a lot of mobility and versatility. It’s easy to use and tote along with you. We love that, especially because our own gear (like weight vests and battle ropes) share those same characteristics.
The effort it takes to get to and start your workout should always be minimized as much as possible. When you can virtually set up anywhere, in less than a minute, and get at it, this is the way to go.
Aren’t the best tools the easiest ones to use?
Why Are Bodyweight Workouts So Popular?
There are 2 main reasons why bodyweight workouts are always popular. They’re easy to do and inexpensive.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t get strong doing bodyweight workouts alone.
Bodyweight workouts are an excellent way to build strength and depending on your goals, are even preferred to other strength training modalities.
Athletes who may not want to add lots of mass, but need maximum strength might benefit from the EQualizer. Think gymnasts, swimmers, performers, dancers, yogis, etc.
Thus, they don’t want or need big, bulky, strength training set ups with benches, bars and weight plates.
Whereas, with bodyweight gear like this, you simply buy, unbox, and use.
Also, since you’re not investing in an NFL quality weight training facility, bodyweight training gear like the EQualizer, save you lots of money.
If you don’t think bodyweight workouts are that popular, take a look at what Google Trends has to say. You might call this the current “state” of bodyweight workouts.
Over the past year, Missouri and Virginia are tied, leading the country in online searches for bodyweight workouts. Colorado, Minnesota and Massachusetts round out the top 5.
We have our homework cut out for us, figuring out why these 5 states lead the country in bodyweight workout searches. If you know or have any clues, please share with us.
Might it have something to do with high-intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.)? H.I.I.T. has also grown in popularity over recent years, and features lots of bodyweight movements.
Perhaps H.I.I.T. is taking off in those states.
Doesn’t come as a surprise then, that all the exercises that the EQualizer offers “…such as dips, push and pull ups, L-sits, knee and leg raises, stretches and more” dovetail quite well with H.I.I.T.
Democratize Your Fitness
As Marc Lebert says right on his homepage, “The simple truth is that the world not only needs better and easier access to fitness tools and education and support but the ability to use them in whatever place or manner they feel comfortable.”
Doing bodyweight training gives back your fitness sovereignty to you. You’re no longer a slave to a schedule, a gym, a location, a partner or a class.
That’s the really beauty of it. Frankly, there are a lot of people out there, who, don’t want to deal with other people.
Whether you struggle with body image issues, you deal with anxiety, or you’re an introvert, not everyone wants to dive into social situations to workout.
You’re a lot better off bringing the workout and gym to you.
This might be one of the bigger fitness trends moving forward in the next few years. The movement to bring the training to you, to your home, to where you are.
We’re already seeing that a lot in the growth of the garage gym movement, which bodyweight workouts are a part of.
What’s not to like about strength training gear that puts all the control of your freedom, in your hands? You pick the time and the place.
We’ve love people nurturing this trend, as we’re part of it ourselves. We encourage you to take part.
Be an engaged participant of a healthier and more active world.
So take your strength training gear and get out there.
One last thing. You might want to get an idea of how to get the most out of it first.
