My name is Miku and I was first introduced to Hyperwear’s SXY weight vest when I started working as the intern. Never having heard of such a fitness product, I was curious and a little intimidated at the same time. I mean come on, strapping on extra weight to your body sounds awesome and little bit like self-torture. But, I’m all about trying new things.
Fitness is an important part of my life. I exercise as much as I can, which ends up being six times a week, give or take a day. I am 22 years old, 5’3, 122 lbs. Pretty average.
I’m not a natural born runner, but I enjoy running outdoors– Town Lake in particular, whenever possible. I first mustered the courage to attempt my usual four-mille run with my vest about ten weeks ago. My first time running with the pre-packed five pounds, I could feel the resistance of the weights against my body after about five to ten minutes of running. It took me an extra fifteen minutes to finish my run! Disappointment at its maximum. But on the second try, I was back at my usual pace. So I decided I needed to up the poundage– I added two more pounds.
Again, it was a challenge at first, but my body adjusted to the seven pounds, just as quickly, if not quicker to the five pounds I challenged myself to conquer the first time. I wear my weight vest every time when I go running since then and I currently do not remember what it is like to run without it. I have since shifted over to using the Hyper Vest® PRO and started wearing my vest from time to time in my weight training. It definitely helps increase resistance when doing leg workouts— squats, lunges, assisted dips, etc.
So if you have been contemplating purchasing a weight vest, or never even thought of the prospect, or absolutely vowed that you would never put yourself through the misery—all I can say is don’t knock it until you try it! Coming from someone who never considered using a weight vest, I don’t regret it one bit.
