Workout Wednesday ~ 5.18.11 ~ Hyper Vest PRO weight vest + SandBell sandbag weights

May 18th, 2011

Need a quick workout mid-week that incorporates Hyper Wear’s versatile products?  Try the following mini-workout wearing your Hyper Vest PRO and use whatever size SandBells you prefer.

5 min. warm up (jumping jacks or walking in place work well)

Throw on your Hyper Vest PRO and let’s get started!

1 min. each of the following (count reps)

1.  Scoop Toss – Grip SandBell with two hands, take a wide stance, hang SandBell low between legs.  Swing SandBell up and out and release as your knees and back straighten (you are going for distance on the toss).  Run to the SandBell you just tossed, pick it up and toss it back in the other direction.

2.  Side Lunges – Holding a challenging weight of SandBell on one shoulder, begin with feet about hip distance apart.  Step right leg out far to the side, pointing toes at a 45 degree angle.  Keep the left foot toes all pointing straight forward.  Left leg will straighten and right knee will bend to about 90 degrees (don’t let knee extend past toes on right foot).  Push off of right foot to return to standing and lunge in the other direction.  Switch which shoulder the SandBell is on after two lunges on each side (and continue lunging and switching for the entire minute).

3.  Standing Twists – Hold your SandBell with both hands at chest level.  Elbows pointing out (not by your sides).  Holding your core tight, twist right to left.

4.  Crab walk – Remember this one from PE class?  Sit on your bottom, then put your feet and hands down onto the ground.  Lift bottom off the ground so that you can walk around on hands and feet.  Two options with SandBells: Place a SandBell on your stomach and keep your core tight as you crabwalk around OR Put the SandBell in front of your feet and kick it as you walk along, moving it forward by turning it over slowly with one foot then the other.

Repeat whole series and try to beat your number of reps from the first round

5 min. cool down

Hot Topic Tuesday : Obesity = Deadly Global Pandemic

March 29th, 2011

If you know anything about Hyper Wear, you know that we take health and exercise very seriously.  Obesity is a growing problem in our nation and even the world.  Hyper Wear is dedicated to being part of the solution.  We love to hear testimonies of the impact Hyper Wear gear has on people’s health and fitness goals as well as the benefits to weight loss.

To give a personal example, I did an informal trial during my weekly workout session.  I tracked the number of calories burned during my normal, hour-long, interval session without wearing my Hyper Vest PRO and then tracked the same type of session while wearing my 5 lb Hyper Vest PRO.  On average, I burned an additional 100 calories per session.  The workout was only a little harder, and with an extra 100 calories burned to show for it, it was worth the extra effort!

We’re not the only ones who are concerned.  FoxNews.com featured an article that I found interesting and little alarming which outlines the global problem that obesity has become.

By the way, the juicy bacon cheeseburger picture on this post is the ad that was on the page with the article about obesity…how’s that for irony?

What news have you read lately about obesity that makes you more passionate about exercise?

What is your favorite exercise using a Hyper Wear product to enhance your fitness routine?

Obesity in America – Hyper Vest PRO Weighted Vest Can Help

September 15th, 2010

I came across this article today that drives home the point that most Americans are in denial about the seriousness of the obesity epidemic in our country.  In the article, titled “Many Americans Don’t Even Know They’re Fat,” we read that in a poll taken of 2,418 adults (aged 18 and over), many respondents have a skewed perception of where they fall on the healthy BMI scale.

It seems some saw this day coming in the 1980s.  Dr. Mitchell Roslin, chief of obesity surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, noted that “when [Dr. Everett Koop, surgeon general in the 1980s] wrote ‘Shape Up America,’ he said the biggest health problem facing America was not AIDS, not cancer, it’s obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. Since then … we’ve seen nothing but a rise in obesity despite all of these efforts that have gone on now since the 1980s.”

We are proud to be an agent of change and want to encourage you to continue going against the culture by living a healthy lifestyle.  If you are one who couples exercise with proper nutrition, you are in the minority, but we’re in this battle with you!

Let us know – how do you use your Hyper Wear products to fight the fight against obesity?

Hyper Vest PRO Weighted Vest Tricks Your Body into Burning MORE Calories

September 8th, 2010

There are so many resources on the internet for people looking to increase their level of health.  I found an excellent resource called “Be Active Your Way: A Guide for Adults.”  It is chock-full of useful tips whether you are just getting started, working to make physical activity a bigger part of your life, or ready to up your duration and / or intensity.

The thing I love about reading guides and articles like this is that it is so easy to incorporate Hyper Wear products into each of these suggestions.  The simplest thing you can do to amp up your workout routine is to add a Hyper Vest PRO weighted vest.  Not only does it make every activity a weight-bearing activity (which builds bone density and muscle mass), it helps you burn extra calories with every move.  You see, it tricks your body into burning more calories!

How does it do this?  Calculate how many calories you burn in one hour of high-impact aerobics.  Let’s say you weigh 150 pounds; you can burn 477 calories in that hour.  But if you weighed 160, you would burn 508 calories in that hour.  That’s about 30 more calories per hour.  May not sound like much, but if you burn that extra 30 calories per day, you can lose a pound of fat (3500 cal = 1 lb fat) in just 116 days, simply by adding a 10 lb weight vest to the equation.  That’s 3 pounds lost per year.  That’s pretty good for not really increasing intensity or duration!

So keep in mind the ways you can get more bang for your workout buck and consider using your Hyper Vest PRO weighted vest to torch extra calories, no sweat!

SPARKPEOPLE hearts Hyper Vest PRO!

July 30th, 2010

A recent article on SPARKPEOPLE.com included the Hyper Vest PRO as one of “8 Ways to Step-Up Your Walking Workouts.”

Have you ever visited SPARKPEOPLE.com?  I think it is one of the best kept secrets in the world of everyday people looking to get fit!  If you’ve ever gone looking for a website that allows you to track your calories, keep a food journal, log daily exercise, get tips and advice, be part of a community, etc., you know that there is a plethora of such sites.  And most of them have a fee of some sort associated with them – either a membership fee or you have to buy their products to be a member or something along those lines.  However, SPARKPEOPLE.com is by far the best I have found – and it’s FREE!  I’m not sure if people just think it’s too good to be true or what, but I think SPARKPEOPLE.com doesn’t get nearly enough press!  Don’t get me wrong, they have a huge membership base (over 8 million!), but I just don’t hear a lot about them in health magazines and such. They feel almost like a grass-roots fitness campaign…

Anyway, you should check them out!  They are loaded with information and helpful tools to help you get healthy and maintain a lifestyle of health.  Thanks for the shout-out, SPARKPEOPLE.com – we can feel the love!

Playground Shoulder Chaos Part 2 – MMM #24

September 21st, 2009

The final showdown at Hyper Wear’s favorite playground at Brushy Creek…This was such a fun little series to do. I definitely give credit to Cosmo for coming up with the original idea. However, as you watch the video, just realize that as we were shooting it, I went off on an exercise tangent and ad-libbed like crazy with the slamming of the SandBell. Some things just make sense and should happen. Don’t you agree?

Enjoy!!

Enter the Octagon – MMM #18

August 10th, 2009

Good Monday Morning!

This week, we’re taking it back to the oooold school!! Lately, I’ve been experimenting with working out at my neighborhood playground with a pretty heavy SandBell.  I thought I’d show you all some of the crazy antics I’ve been up to.

For me, training in non-traditional settings is what works the best. I feel like it’s not even training, but really just playing around like when you were a kid….except your heart rate is sky rocketing and you’re a little bit more fearful of injury on the playground than when you were 6 years old! Enjoy “The Octagon” and all its twists and turns, bumps and bruises!

Number of kids on medication jumps alarmingly

November 5th, 2008

According to a recent USA Today article, “The number of children who take medication for chronic diseases has jumped dramatically, another troubling sign that many of the youngest Americans are struggling with obesity, doctors say.”

This is a disturbing trend that we as adults must do our part in curbing.  We have to set a good example by exercising and eating right ourselves AND we must help our children adopt healthy lifestyles.

Hyper Wear is attuned to the needs of health for adults and children and that’s why we’ve come out with smaller sizes in the Hyper Vests as well as the Hyper SandBells.  Both are kid-friendly and fun to use, thus encouraging fitness in young people.

Hyper Vest Wearer Loses 20 Pounds!

September 8th, 2008

Patrick Magill received his Hyper Vest about a month ago.  He purchased it in the hopes of losing weight by wearing the vest for everyday activities.  He does not exercise and he does not diet.

One month later – with the only lifestyle change being the addition of the Hyper Vest with 15 pounds of weight – Patrick has lost 20 pounds.  Very cool.  We’re looking forward to following him on his journey and see just how far he goes.  To read more, check out Patrick’s blog on the Hyper Wear Community page.
