The Perfect Solution for Sad Muggles (following the end of the Harry Potter series…)

July 15th, 2011

I did not see Harry Potter yesterday and I will not see it today.  In fact, I won’t see it this weekend.  I may not even see it this month.

Don’t get me wrong, I will see it, but the trouble is three-fold:

1.  I don’t want to sit amongst the throngs of die-hards that will attend this weekend.

2.  I didn’t see the last one (part one to this part two).  I know – horror of horrors!  But I hate the suspense!  I couldn’t bear seeing the first half and then having to wait for the second.  So, first I have to watch that one.  In fact, while I’m at it, I think I need to watch all of them again in a row so I remember the flow of the story…

3.  I don’t want to slip into the deep depression feared for many Muggles according to this article:

Grief counseling for Muggles mourning final ‘Harry Potter’ film

But have no fear!!  Hyper Wear has a solution!

Do you know what’s great for dealing with depression and grief?

Exercise!  That’s right!  It gets the endorphins flowing that give you happy feelings and it helps you look great so that when you look in the mirror you love what you see and when you get the one-eyebrow-raised-half-smile-with-the-head-nod at the gym, you know it was well-deserved.

We have a whole channel on You Tube with tons of videos with ideas for exercises to do!

So, for all you sad Muggles out there mourning the end of an era, chin up!  We’ve got just the thing!

Austin American-Statesman : Fitness Evaluation

May 17th, 2011

It doesn’t matter how many articles I read about childhood obesity, I am always shocked at the statistics in relationship to this war for the health for our children.  This latest article, “Many Texas schoolchildren fail fitness evaluation“, in the Austin American-Statesman hit a little too close to home as Austin, TX, is where Hyper Wear is based.

Austin ISD has SandBells in every Physical Education classroom in the district, which is a wonderful beginning, but we realize just owning the product is not enough.  We take every opportunity we are given to go to schools to talk with teachers and kids about fitness.  We participate in Wellness Days, present new ideas to teachers at inservice days, and show kids how much fun exercising can be.

It is no easy task so we want to commend all of you hard working P.E. administrators and teachers who are so passionate about physical fitness for yourself and the children whose lives you influence every day.  We know a lot of the Texas P.E. administrators and teachers personally and we know that they are working hard to turn things around.  Thank you for the dedication and perseverance.  Let us know how we can help!

Are you a parent of a child in P.E.?  When was the last time you thanked your child’s P.E. teacher?  What can you perhaps do to help further instill the message of health in your children?

Are you a P.E. teacher?  Do you have SandBells in your classroom?  If so, what are your kids’ favorite activities with SandBells?  If not, why not?!

Joey Votto at IMG Baseball Academy: Combine360

May 13th, 2011

Do you read Men’s Fitness Magazine?

In the June / July 2011 issue that is on stands now, there is an article about Major League Baseball’s Joey Votto.  The article is all about his preseason training , complete with some notes on the actual workout he does at IMG Baseball Academy under the direction of trainer, Corey Stenstrup.

He just happens to use Hyper Wear’s SandBells!  Take a look at this awesome full-body, SandBell slam:

All I can say is, that SandBell is fixin’ to prove its worth!

Sitting: A Lethal Activity?

April 26th, 2011

Hot Topic Tuesdays are all about interesting articles and studies we’ve found lately.  We like to take a look at these current issues and talk about how Hyper Wear’s products can help!

You know that an article that starts with the words, “Dr. Levine’s Magic Underwear…” has got to be a good one.

It’s a bit of a long read, but “Is Sitting a Lethal Activity?” from The New York Times is a great article about the ill-effects of living a sedentary lifestyle.  It really got going for me around page three with this statement:

“This is your body on chairs: Electrical activity in the muscles drops – ‘the muscles go as silent as those of a dead horse,’ Hamilton says – leading to a cascade of harmful metabolic effects.”

A few other highlights for me:

“Over a lifetime, the unhealthful effects of sitting add up.”

“…for each additional hour of television a person sat and watched per day, the risk of dying rose by 11 percent.”

“The good news is that inactivity’s peril can be countered.”

“‘…when you bent over to tie your shoes,’ she said. ‘It took your body more energy than just sitting still.’”

“people [need] to redesign their environments so that they encourage more movement. We visited a chairless first-grade classroom where the students spent part of each day crawling along mats labeled with vocabulary words and jumping between platforms while reciting math problems. We stopped by a human-resources staffing agency where many of the employees worked on the move at treadmill desks – a creation of Dr. Levine’s…”

At Hyper Wear, we have Stability Balls in our conference room instead of chairs.  We also have SandBells all over the place so we can get up and move around with them periodically throughout the day.  We have a workout in our warehouse on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  And some of us wear our Hyper Vest PRO weight vests during the day.

These are all a good start, but after reading this, I’d like to do more.  Maybe I can learn to type while doing squats in my Hyper Vest PRO…

What do you do to counter the effects of sedentary living?

And this video isn’t related to the article except that both “Dare You To Move”…

American Council on Exercise Rates the SandBell

April 21st, 2011

Here at Hyper Wear, we encounter so many amazing people every day!  We are presented with many, many truly awesome opportunities to share our products with an enormous range of people.  We love to hear feedback and love to see people enjoy fitness because of our products.  That’s what Thankful Thursdays are all about – us saying, “Thank You!” to a specific customer, group, publication, etc. that has helped us along the road to success.

Editor’s rating:

The American Council on Exercise editors did another independent review of one of our products – the SandBell this time. They gave it four of five stars with the only concern being that the grip workout might be too difficult for people with certain conditions like arthritis.

Here’s a quote:

“The key noticeable differences included the aspect of improving grip strength, which improves shoulder stability, and the ability to drop these products without fear of injury or damage to the floor. The Sandbells can be gripped through the middle of the disc or by the ends (as illustrated on their website). We utilized both grips and enjoyed the natural free motion it allowed at the wrist/distal joint, something limited when using kettlebells, dumbbells or medicine balls. Grip strength is obviously very important within several occupations and this device provided an effective way to train to strengthen one’s grip. Unlike a kettlebell with its off-center of mass (requiring both stability and mobility) that creates much discomfort to the back of the forearm, the Sandbell allows the user to maintain a neutral wrist (stability) while moving it as needed (mobility). Their shape also eliminates any concern of rolling or moving, a factor that exists with dumbbell or medicine ball.”

Muscle & Fitness Hers and SandBells!

We are always so humbled when we get promoted in a magazine.  We have never purchased advertising in a publication, but have been blessed with several excellent promotions of our products.  This week, we are thankful for our latest mention, found in the Mar/Apr 2011 Muscle and Fitness Hers – the magazine “for women who want more out of fitness.”

Here are pics of the cover, page 25 where the mention can be found and the mention up close:

Hot Topic Tuesday : Endurance Exercise

April 12th, 2011

An interesting study on the effects of exercise on mice got me thinking…  Read the article then read my thoughts.

Endurance Exercise Thwarts Premature Aging in Mice

Researchers liken aggressive workouts to ‘fountain of youth’
By Robert Preidt

FRIDAY, Feb. 25, 2011 (HealthDay News) — Endurance exercise may be “the fountain of youth” — or so a new study of mice suggests.

Canadian researchers found that endurance exercise offered protection against premature aging in mice genetically engineered to age faster than normal.

Mice who ran on a treadmill three times a week for five months looked as young as regular mice, while those who didn’t exercise were graying, balding, socially isolated and less fertile, said the researchers at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

The study was published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

“Many people falsely believe that the benefits of exercise will be found in a pill,” principal investigator Mark Tarnopolsky, a professor of pediatrics and medicine, said in a McMaster news release. “We have clearly shown that there is no substitute for the ‘real thing’ of exercise when it comes to protection from aging.”

Tarnopolsky noted that other researchers “have tried to treat these animals with ‘exercise pill’ drugs and have even tried to reduce their caloric intake, a strategy felt to be the most effective for slowing aging, and these were met with limited success.”

“Exercise truly is the fountain of youth,” lead author Adeel Safdar, a senior Ph.D. student, said in the news release.

Here are my thoughts:

The Hyper Vest PRO is perfect for endurance exercise.  We get a lot of questions about why our vest doesn’t hold more weight.  It’s simple – with less weight, you can actually exercise for a longer duration without causing damage to your joints that a super-heavy weight vest would most certainly inflict.  It’s part of the beauty of the Hyper Vest PRO and one of its stand-out qualities that make it a leader in the market!

So, incorporate endurance exercise in your routine to tap into that “fountain of youth” and use a Hyper Vest PRO to burn more calories and build more muscle in the process!

Cosmo tried to do a study with mice and all, but they just refused hold still when he tried to zip up the vest…

Hot Topic Tuesday : Obesity = Deadly Global Pandemic

March 29th, 2011

If you know anything about Hyper Wear, you know that we take health and exercise very seriously.  Obesity is a growing problem in our nation and even the world.  Hyper Wear is dedicated to being part of the solution.  We love to hear testimonies of the impact Hyper Wear gear has on people’s health and fitness goals as well as the benefits to weight loss.

To give a personal example, I did an informal trial during my weekly workout session.  I tracked the number of calories burned during my normal, hour-long, interval session without wearing my Hyper Vest PRO and then tracked the same type of session while wearing my 5 lb Hyper Vest PRO.  On average, I burned an additional 100 calories per session.  The workout was only a little harder, and with an extra 100 calories burned to show for it, it was worth the extra effort!

We’re not the only ones who are concerned.  FoxNews.com featured an article that I found interesting and little alarming which outlines the global problem that obesity has become.

By the way, the juicy bacon cheeseburger picture on this post is the ad that was on the page with the article about obesity…how’s that for irony?

What news have you read lately about obesity that makes you more passionate about exercise?

What is your favorite exercise using a Hyper Wear product to enhance your fitness routine?
