An Introduction to the Inner Workings of Coach Dos
Right now, in your business, with your clients, your friends or even in the world, what is one major thing you are trying to make happen?
Trying to build better athletes AND better people every single day...one at a time!
If you were going to renovate the fitness industry, what would you do first?
Mandate continuing education for all personal trainers, strength coaches, athletic trainers etc. This field is constantly evolving....if you're not getting better, you're getting WORSE! No such thing as 'staying the same'.
How do you measure success personally?
If I can look yourself in the mirror each night and say that you did all that you can to be the best husband, father, and friend that I possibly be......if I can, I know I have succeeded
How do you measure success professionally?
Same as the last question....if I can I honestly say that I did everything in my power every single day to help my student-athletes reach their goals both physically and mentally.....if I can, I know I have succeeded.
Credentials
Professional Credentials:
Former Division I football athlete and junior college All-American. I've been involved...no ENTRENCHED in strength and conditioning for more than 20 years. 2006 NSCA Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach of the year.
Business Credentials (projects worked on, organizations run/worked at/with):
I'm just a coach.....I love what I do and have been fortunate to have developed one of the premiere collegiate S&C programs in the world. We have visitors almost weekly from all over the world....from high school to professional level coaches and that is truly an honor.
Personal Credentials (cool projects or activities):
I have had the great fortune of traveling the world to talk and present on fitness and conditioning....I really love that. I have been involved with Fitness Anywhere (TRX) and Perform Better; these companies have sent me all over to present and educate. I'm looking forward to doing more and more with Hyper Wear!
Q&A
What type of people do you work with (athletes / weight loss / therapy / general)?
I work with freshman and sophomore collegiate athletes for the most part training sport-specific strength, conditioning, and speed. I have several elite Nike track athletes as well and also numerous online coaching clients, whom I help with fitness, weight loss, etc.
What is lighting your fire right now at work?
Football season is right around the corner and we have one of the best J.C. programs in the country....2010 has great promise for another national championship!
Favorite thing you love about what you do?
I get to mold pieces of clay into unbelievable Division I athletes. We presently have eight kids in the NFL and NOT ONE OF THEM was recruited AT ALL out of high school by any D1 program.
Least favorite thing about what you do?
Working with unmotivated athletes and coaches who have their priorities screwed up.
All Things Hyper
Your thoughts on the Hyper Vest PRO:
Favorite Exercise: ANY bodyweight movement that needs some external load. My personal favorite is kipping pullups, bear crawls, etc.
Your thoughts on the SandBell:
Awesome tool...adds comfort to many moves like burpees...bigger ones are great for shoulder get ups (TGU "Turkish Get Up" style).
Favorite Exercise: Slams...hands down. Close second is loaded SandBell one-legged burpee with throw on a TRX.
Your thoughts on the Hyper Vest COOL:
Favorite Use: I live in one of the hottest areas of southern California......ANYTIME I'm doing circuits, sprints, etc. in the heat I love the Hyper vest COOL!
Your thoughts on the SteelBell:
LOVE the durability and the smaller size!
Favorite Exercise: Any and all throws, slams, and TGU's, really working on grip.
Your Favorite Hyper Activity Overall:
C'mon now! Anyone who's seen our training videos knows that we have TOO MANY to list a favorite! We DO WORK!!!
Getting to Know You Better
If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be?
Dave Grohl Lead singer for Foo Fighters....no brainer....I'm a Rock Star in a former life FOR SURE!
What kind of workout would this person enjoy with Hyper Wear products?
I would wear a 20 lb. Hyper Vest PRO and do an entire concert....for the HELL OF IT! HAHA! Would be an amazing workout knowing how hard Dave goes each night!
What was the last book you read?
"Beyond Beef" by Jeremy Rifkin...AMAZING book that I recommend to ANYONE (carnivore or vegetarian)....will change your life.
Did you read it while wearing a Hyper Vest PRO?
No but I wore my Hyper Vest COOL when I did my outdoor reading = )
How would you describe yourself in three words (you can leave out ‘SandBell Lover’ because everybody says that, right)?
Intense, Dedicated, Fun
If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with your SandBell?
Take it with me and DO WORK on every amazing beach across the planet
If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?
Buy Hyper Wear......then do the most amazing WORLD PUB TOUR EVERRRRRR!
Why are manhole covers round, like a SandBell?
Because they copied you guys right?
What would I find in your refrigerator right now, besides the Hyper Vest COOL?
HAHA! About 25 different beers and more veggies than you would imagine.
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, (and why haven't they yet) whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?
My first instinct is to say THE ROCK....Buttttttt, my life is complex and too interesting at times....I have to go with the MAN, Leo DiCaprio. Oh yeah, Leo might be able to pull that off.
Would you insist that he or she wears a Hyper Wear shirt in every scene – just to stay true to real life?
I think Leo would have to wear about four Hyper Wear weight vests just so that he actually looks as heavy as me hahah!
