Getting to Know Mr. Meyer

Bill - Never Stand StillRight now, in your business, with your clients, your friends or even in the world, what is one major thing you are trying to make happen?

I’m trying to create a strong mental and physical environment of play-based training for our next generations of not only children in school right now or for my generation’s children in the near future, but for the moms and dads across the world that are new to exercise and/or those who are still resting gently at the top of the iceberg doing 45 min of steady-state cardiovascular training on a recumbent bike.

If you were going to renovate the fitness industry, what would you do first?
Rid the world of the dreaded stereotype that “getting in shape” means you can’t have fun and enjoy creative methods of exercise!

How do you measure success personally?
I am constantly doing my best to honor my Lord Jesus Christ, love and protect my fiancée, and be as healthy as I can, in all that I do. If I am able to look at myself in the mirror and feel I have accomplished those things, I know that I am a success.

How do you measure success professionally?
By listening to the many obstacles of my clients and finding ways to overcome them and bring a higher level of happiness into their life. I am also a constant learner of my trade, I tend to make sure that I surround myself with professionals that are going to teach me something of quality, whether through training, business, or life.

Business Credentials (projects worked on, organizations run/worked at/with):
have been able to work with Hyper Wear since it’s inception and have enjoyed every moment with them. Whether producing “Monday Morning Muscle” videos, giving workshops for teachers and coaches across the country, or just simply sharing meals with the great people of Hyper Wear, every moment has been a blessing.

I am currently opening my own training studio here in Norfolk, Virginia and excited about all of the potential I have here to help change the lives of those in the community and beyond.

I have been blessed to work with the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation in the last few months, and am looking forward to writing for their newsletter and helping to bring an annual workshop/competition to the Hampton Roads area for the first time in 2011.

Personal Credentials (cool projects or activities):
I love to compete in kettlebell sport and am preparing for an IKFF event in March 2011!

I also love to produce videos on my computer (a new found passion in the last 6 months), and have recently created a Christmas gift to my fiancée streaming together footage from the entire year of 2010. She loved it!!!

Q&A

Bill - Never Stand Still

What type of people do you work with (athletes / weight loss / therapy / general)?
Currently, I work with adults and seniors looking to gain strength, lose weight, and remain functional. It is a very rewarding job to stand by and assist my clients in gaining freedom from their injuries, setbacks, and sometimes their own excuses.

What is lighting your fire right now at work?
Focusing on opening up my training studio and making sure I am prepared for that in all angles!

Favorite thing you love about what you do?
Hearing feedback from my clients and their friends/family members about how much they enjoy my training and just simply spending an hour with me.

Least favorite thing about what you do?
My schedule is usually pretty hit-and-miss, sometimes making two trips to work each day, one in the early morning and another in the afternoon.

All Things Hyper

Your thoughts on the Hyper Vest PRO:
The HV-PRO is AMAZING! Let’s make sure you heard that right: AMAZING!! The ability to add a small (or large) amount of resistance to your training program, especially keeping it close to your COG, and without worrying about it moving, shifting, and jolting your body is such a great thing. Not many workouts go by without me wearing the HV-PRO!

Favorite Exercise: Jumping over anything, any means necessary.

Your thoughts on the SandBell:

I told Cosmo from the very beginning when he showed me the first sample of the SandBell, this simple product would eventually change the direction of resistance training in the entire globe of health and fitness. A product that can replace or become a great training aide of ANY other piece of equipment, and be able to provide the sound of mind of SAFETY to those who use it. It’s something that has never successfully broke through on a scale that the SandBell can from this point on!

Favorite Exercise: Endurance Throws – pick a throw (or mix and match) and throw for two to five minutes, uninterrupted.

Your thoughts on the Hyper Vest COOL:

The new gem of Hyper Wear, I found out how awesome this product was a couple of summers ago in Austin, TX, during a video shoot in 103 degree heat. We set up a 10 min obstacle course outside and I ran through it as best as I could, then recovered with a HV-COOL for 20 min, ran the course again with it on, and beat my time by over a minute!

Favorite Use: Cooling down after an outdoor workout.  Also used it to stay cool during a hot day of moving out of my apartment in October! Really perfect for that function too!

Your thoughts on the SteelBell:

Now we’re talking!! I love the SteelBell! Its density is a little different from it’s older brother, the SandBell, and the thicker neoprene allows for heavier weight to be loaded into it, which I love the sound of!!

Favorite Exercise: Atlas Lifts – grab a 100lb SteelBell, a platform that is about face-height, and get to lifting! Once the SB is placed on the platform, rip it down and start over!

Your Favorite Hyper Activity Overall:
I would say Freestyle Partner Passing with 2 4lb SandBells. Get creative! No boundaries! Have fun!   Never Stand Still!

Getting to Know You Better

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be?
Eric Chessen – owner of Autism Fitness in New York. He has transformed his garage into “Hell Gym” and has all types of fun toys to play with in there!

What kind of workout would this person enjoy with Hyper Wear products?
Eric loves sprinting and jumping with his HV-PRO, every video he puts out has him doing some type of motor pattern with it on!

What was the last book you read?
Wooden, "A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court"

Did you read it while wearing a Hyper Vest PRO?
Yes at some points I was! How did you know!? During a rest period of a workout, I fondly remember looking up a specific quote from his book to push me through my next set of work.

How would you describe yourself in three words (You can leave out ‘SandBell Lover’ because everybody says that, right)?
Driven, protector and coach.

If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with your SandBell?
Take it around the world with my fiancée, Lauren Sparrow, seeing everything this earth has to offer and more!

If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?
Provide for my family, and create a charity benefiting animal shelters.

Why are manhole covers round, like a SandBell?
They’re simply jealous of how soft and comfortable the SandBell is. Both objects are durable, but the manhole is just not as soft and easy on the hands! Maybe through evolution, manhole covers will eventually be replaced with SandBells though!

What would I find in your refrigerator right now, besides the Hyper Vest COOL?
Eggs, fruit, sausage, jars of pesto with basil, yogurt, hummus, and celery.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, (and why haven't they yet?) whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?
Ken Blackburn, my coach from the IKFF – strong, witty, peaceful, loves to coach, and similar shaped noggin.

Would you insist that he or she wears a Hyper Wear shirt in every scene – just to stay true to real life?
Heck yes! Most comfortable shirt I own!!
